Will Biddick celebrated his fourth consecutive championship title as the 2014/15 point-to-point season came to a close at Umberleigh on Saturday (13 June).
The Somerset-based jockey rode 68 winners in the season, far surpassing his previous best of 42 (2011/12) — and securing a record in the process.
The previous record was 56, set by Oliver Greenall in 2008 and equalled by his brother Tom in 2009.
Will has won the title every year since he first claimed it in 2011/12.
John Mathias was second on 32 winners while H&H columnist Darren Edwards was third with 22.
Meanwhile, Gina Andrews was crowned womens’ champion for the second time, last picking up the title in 2010/11. She secured 29 winners this year. Hannah Watson was second on 17.
“I’m over the moon,” said Gina. “It’s been my aim to claim it back since I first won it so it’s a real sense of achievement. I’m definitely going to be trying to hold onto the title next season.”
Gina is marrying fellow rider Tom Ellis at the weekend (20 June) and hopes that he will be off his crutches, after breaking his leg in a fall at Mollington in May.
“He’s going to the hospital this week, so fingers crossed,” she added.
Harry Cobden and Lara Mahon took the mens’ and womens’ novice titles respectively.
Cock Of The Rock and Rosies Peacock were crowned joint horse of the season with seven victories apiece.
Clare Hazell from the Point-to-Point Authority (PPA) said: “We add our congratulations to all the owners and riders that have made the season such a success. A special mention goes to Will Biddick for breaking the record for number of wins in a season.
“The sport is indebted to the vital title championship sponsorship of Fullers Brewery and Connolley’s Red Mills and we look forward to crowning our champions at the PPA national dinner on 14 November.”
